Isn't allowing breast implants in beauty pageants similar to allowing athletes to juice up for competition?

Isn't that the same thing as the steroids issue? Is this another double standard? What are your opinion on this?Isn't allowing breast implants in beauty pageants similar to allowing athletes to juice up for competition?
You make a very good point. It basically is the exact same thing in my opinion. If you're fake you shouldn't be able to compete with the women who have real breasts. They could simply have separate contests just for women with breast implants.Isn't allowing breast implants in beauty pageants similar to allowing athletes to juice up for competition?
It's an unfair advantage to the women with natural breast particularly since everyone is covered in swim suits. You can't always tell who's enhanced and who's natural unless women are in the nude ( or at least I can't). It's also encouraging the unhealthy practice of loading one's bosom with silicone. If those bags rupture or burst it creates a horrible health complication for women.

edit- Steroid prohibition was introduced initially based on arguments for concern of the health of the athletes. I see no reason why silicone shouldn't be treated the same in pageants since it's been proven to lead to decline in health in the latter years of a large number of women.
I agree. I have nothing against breast implants. I personally think they don't look as good as the real thing and wouldn't get them myself but I know that some girls feel so self conscious that they have no boobs and don't feel feminine who would get them...BUT I thought beauty pageants were supposed to be based on natural beauty? Putting blobs of silicone in your chest isn't natural and is enhancing your appearance and improving your chances of winning much like steroids do for athletes.

It would be horrible to ban women with breast implants from joining in because it must have taken a lot of courage for them to go through with the boob job and this would be another blow to them just when they had begun to feel comfortable in their body - 'you weren't born with those boobs so you can't take part.' It's difficult to know what would be fair and what wouldn't upset people but then again if you let ladies in with breast implants, wouldn't the other ladies in the pageant be upset because they would feel the woman had an unfair advantage?
I tend to agree with you. The excuse given by the pageants for allowing this is that supposedly they are not ';beauty'; pageants but ';scholarship'; pageants, or some such nonsense they made up to appease people who thought they were exploitative and demeaning to women.

(Donald Trump is the power behind the Miss USA pageant. 'Nuff said)
Really you could say make-up is a performance enhancer in beauty pageants if you wanted to, and banning that would pretty much ruin the whole deal, since beauty queens can't go without at least 3 gallons of makeup on during those things.

It's not really a double standard since they are entirely different fields.
No I don't think that's a fair comparison. The beauty contenstents have many fake components anyways....Fake spray tan, fake extensions, fake eyelashes, makeup to cover any skin imperfections, lumineers (fake teeth), etc.

It's about who is born genetically good looking but also who spends all the time and money on spray tans, extensions etc to look like a barbie doll.
According to Parez Hilton, it cant be about a womans brain, because there are thoughts, feeling and beliefs inside it that may not make everyone happy. So she cannot expel those thoughts.

So it must be about beauty and that would warrant the womans body to be natural in every way.
If that were the case, they should have to ban false eyelashes and makeup as well. Although I think they should have to compete using their natural beauty, if they ALL get implants, it's not really an advantage for any of them, only for the guys who are watching the pageant.
If it was a competition soley based on the attractiveness of a woman's breasts then it should not be allowed. I would like to think that the woman would still have won whether her breasts were small or large in a normal beauty pagent..
Yes, that's a good way of putting it. But as I said before, they don't care whether or not the entrant is naturally beautiful. They care about how well she matches the prototypical pageant look.
Yes. But beauty pageants aren't judged based on breast size, there are other things involved. In sports, really the only think you use is strength and agility which can be increased by taking steroids.
I concur. I think that if it is to maintain its integrity, this like breast augmentations should be banned from such contests.
as much as I appreciate the aesthetics of a beautiful female body, I have to agree 100%! This is a very good question and point.
I agree.

And how about performance enhancing chemicals?

Make-up.
I agree entirely.
yes. the exact same thing.
i think they are fine for beauty pagents
